Mother Carries Baby with Fatal Brain Disorder Full Term to Donate Organs to Newborns in Need

“A week of smiles and sounds of protest and snuggles. I wouldn’t trade this week for anything in the whole wide world.”

Little Rylei Arcadia’s time as a living being may have been fleeting, but it was nothing short of inspiring.

When her mother, Krysta Davis, was in her eighteenth week of pregnancy, she and her partner received news no mother or father can bear to receive. Doctors told them their unborn daughter had anencephaly, a serious birth defect in which the child is born with missing parts of brain and skull, as per Daily Advertiser. In this condition, life expectancy ranges between the moment of birth to a mere few days.

The parents were given the choice to induce labor and deliver the baby, or continue with the pregnancy and pray for a miracle.

After a meeting with another doctor, Krysta learned if she did carry her daughter till due date, she could donate her organs to other newborns in need. And thus, the couple made their decision.

“I may have not been able to take my baby home, but I could maybe use her life to give other mothers the chance to,” Krysta told Daily Advertiser.

The wonderful baby girl was delivered on Christmas Eve and she was simply amazing. Her parents cherished every moment they had with their sweet little daughter.

Unfortunately, on New Year’s Day, after a week filled with positive emotions, the parents had to say goodbye to their child.

“For nine months, I carried this beautiful soul while her father, our friends, family and myself filled her with love as she grew. I never would have imagined after she was diagnosed with anencephaly that she would bless us with a week of her presence,” the mother shared on Facebook. “A week of smiles and sounds of protest and snuggles. I wouldn’t trade this week for anything in the whole wide world.”

I do have one final update 💕Miss Rylei came back from "surgery" a few hours ago, so she's currently being loved on one…

Even though Rylei came to live just for a week, she made a powerful impact on the lives of not just her parents but also on many others.

Her lungs will be used for research on anecephaly, and her heart valves will be used to save two other newborns, her mother explained.
