Photographer befriends abandoned starving puppy on tiny deserted island
Last December, the photographer Wesley White had a work trip to Thatch Caye in Belize, Central America.
He expected to witness a once-in-a-lifetime ocean view, and he did, but he also found something much more valuable.
Wesley loved kayaking, and on his free time, he decided to rent a kayak from his resort. On his day off, he kayaked out to a tiny deserted island, where he planned to have a picnic. Then he saw something quite curious.
When the photographer arrived at the tiny island, he started looking around for a place to have his picnic. After a while, he realized that the island wasn’t actually deserted.
Wesley saw a tiny, bony puppy, who wouldn’t survive much longer alone on this abandoned island.

The neglectful situations pets find themselves in can be heartbreaking. Fortunately with the help of a global community, we can all help dogs like winston. Winston is much better condition now and will start his long journey to Montana, USA in just 3 short weeks. Please consider contributing to his relocation costs, everyone would be so grateful to be reunited at his forever home. The dog was clearly in pain, but it still wagged its tail when he saw the man approaching him. As per Animal Channel, Wesley said:
“My heart exploded out of my chest. He was just waiting for a human to show up.”
Life throws you some weird curve balls. While fishing today I found this emaciated puppy at an abandoned fishing camp on…
The photographer knew he had to take care of this unfortunate pupper. He couldn’t leave him alone on the island. He decided to take the dog with him, back to Thatch Caye.
Destiny has brought the man and this abandoned puppy together.
This faithful meeting changed Wesley’s whole plan. For the two days he had in Belize, he was determined to find loving owners for the dog. He named the pupper Winston.
When they got back to the mainland, the photographer quickly contacted the local humane society. They promised they would take care of little Winston. As for the condition the puppy was in, Wesley wrote:
“Winston was found to be infested with mites, emaciated, and dehydrated, but otherwise his organs were healthy.”
During his last days on the island, Wesley was making sure Winston is taken care of. Unfortunately, the man had to head back home to Montana. He was heartbroken.
“It was like giving up my little puppy all of a sudden.”
The man didn’t want to leave the puppy there. For only two days he got so attached to this lost soul, that he was considering adopting Winston himself. What was stopping him was that he wasn’t sure if his two dogs at home would get along with the new puppy.
My little buddy is safely at the vet and I have paid for all his medical care while I am out of country. A foster care…
After two months went by, Wesley still couldn’t stop thinking about Winston. This time the man was determined he wanted to adopt the pupper. From the moment they met, the photographer was in love with this dog.
Wesley went back to Texas to meet little Winston, and their reunion was heart-melting. Both of them were happy to see each other. Winston was wagging his tail like crazy.
The photographer and his new puppy went back to Montana. Wesley was quite nervous to meet Winston with his other dogs, but luckily, everyone got along. Not long after, the three dogs were acting like true siblings.
Mr Winston weighs 36 pounds now! 24 pounds heavier than when I found him in December.Having 3 dogs is a little wild, but I'm loving it!
